[Hardware] external monitor problems

#1 Post by climbingrock »

Hello,

my DELL Xps13 laptop running Debian 11 Bullseye suddenly stopped displaying the external monitor. When I connect the monitor it gets recongised and shows up in the setting however, the video is not being displayed. I have tried several different monitors, which all connect fine to other computers thus I am fairly positive that the problem is in my linux distro. Before it used to connect and display video just fine. Any help how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks!

How is the monitor connected? HDMI? Edit: web search suggests HDMI-USBC with this model. Correct?

Some thing to try:

Check display settings to see if you haven't inadvertently changed resolution.
Disconnect cable, reboot and reconnect cable.
Try a different cable, if you haven't already: failing cables can work with some computers and not others, apparently.

Some things to think about:

Have you updated the BIOS, drivers or kernel?

Some information you can supply:

Output of

Code: Select all

$ xrandr --verbose

Code: Select all

$ inxi -SMCGx
(May need to install inxi package.)
