Cannot login or select desktop environments after an upgrade from Debian 11 to sid unstable!
Cannot login or select desktop environments after an upgrade from Debian 11 to sid unstable!
Yeah I've had alot of trouble with your Debian 11 and have been trying to set it up for over 5 days. and I have experience with Lubuntu and Bionic Pup, and tons of different windows and this thing is a nightmare to troubleshoot or get anything working, seems like every program I install doesn't work and you have to reprogram or install all these things in the terminal prompt before you can get the program you installed to run. Though people on the side claimed it's cause, I choose the standard package and I should have chosen the extended. even if it installs a lot more, and stuff you may never use.
Also I wanted KDE Plasma and when installed, it would give only the wall of text, I believe that's called the splash screen and it would never load past that. after a day of searching and doing all kinds of googling I found out that KDE Plasma seems to always not work when installed after the box and unless you're an expert and know just what and where to reprogram into the tty1 this problem cannot be fixed so you have to install gnome first then KDE from there.
Well I mean that fixed the problem. but then the next problem I had is that every program I install takes a day to troubleshoot it to get it to function. though I've been told it's cause I went for just the standard package, anyone who's not an expert needs the extended but you know they could have made that clearer on the Debian11 download website.
So fast forwarding three more days into this I next try to install Fl Studio 20 with wine, complete nsis error. I then install it with wine bottles, just to discover the installed directory it installed this too when checked does not exist. and I see no option to launch this or no directions on what codes to use in terminal to create a desktop.
I find after a long time of googling, that Debian 11 is too obsolete currently to adequately work with wine7.0 and I need to update the Debian 11 to sid unstable, I did that and now the desktop is completely defective, and the other option, IDK does it have advanced?
there's like three Debian 11s that originally all did the same thing but with different words after or before them.
Now they load up a black text screen and give the following messages at the end.
"you are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl - xb" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or exit"
***[2:32 PM]***Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked. See sulpgin(8) man page for more details.
So I need to get into that tty1 menu and either install addition stuff or get into certain settings and change stuff around then save so now the desktop works. and now wine7.0 should work perfectly with the Sid Unstable Upgrade, and be able to get FL Studio 20 running.
I mean is this going to work? Maybe I should just downgrade back to Bullseye and use windows 11 with no TPM Chip for another 6 months until you get that update or version or whatever you do there.
Another person said, I should use an older version of wine, it will have alot less problems but, the thing is it won't work with the newest fl studio 20 version but, I think I can use the last version of FL Studio before this I believe that one was 7 or 8 months ago. So yeah you know what codes to punch into the tty1 to repair and get this up and running or am I better off just changing back to stable and using Windows 11 until like spring time?

Re: Cannot login or select desktop environments after an upgrade from Debian 11 to sid unstable!
If you want to use the latest FLStudio, that would be the best option.
Your wall of text is impossible to read and ascertain what your exact problem is so also impossible to try to help. Try to be concise and stick to the point. Your experience with Bullseye and KDE is not normal but you gave no clue to help diagnose eg. what installer you used and what you installed after (exact package names), what hardware you have, what firmware you installed. Installing Gnome to get KDE working is crazy.
Unstable is not an upgrade, it's a development version so requires more knowledge and constant maintenance.
Also cross posting is bad form.

The lastest Fl Studio is incompatible with Debian 11 with wine 7.0 or the older version. Unless you know something I don't. Let's start with this problem first. I was told previously that I need to get the "Unstable Version" to be able to get this to work. Now I cannot login to the desktops. the graphical mode has no Environments in the list and the arrow or enter Key will not progress into the desktop. The other two Debian's Instances in my boot menu list where I also have windows 11, load a bunch of text but can never get past that or start the desktop up. I need to go into tty1 and do stuff but I have no clue what codes and what to do when I get into that. I need an expert. It may be easier to switch back to Bullseye and wait 6 months for the Debian 11 to be up to date enough to work with wine 7 and finally be able to correctly install and run Fl Studio 20.sunrat wrote: ↑2022-11-01 20:38If you want to use the latest FLStudio, that would be the best option.

I made attempts to make the main post more readable. I don't think it's hard at all to figure out from here. I had alot of problems and now I have this one and upon fixing this, everything should be good!

I saw all the other Admins posting here and figured I need to show my colour off as well.
You can get to other ttys? Control + ALT + F4 or F5 should jump you into a terminal.
If you can space out your paragraphs it might make the issue better defined. I am on a Mobile and can't really see what's going on here.

Typo perfectionish.

Okay I rewrote this now to be a college grade report on troubleshooting a project now. should be super easy to peck through and translatedonald wrote: ↑2022-11-01 21:49 I saw all the other Admins posting here and figured I need to show my colour off as well.

Who told you that you need to run Sid in order to do whatever it was you wanted?
Did they have any explanation why?

Re: Cannot login or select desktop environments after an upgrade from Debian 11 to sid unstable!
some guy on Reddit, He claimed the base Debian 11 was too obsolete to run wine 7.0 correctly with alot of programs such as FL Studio 20. and you need to upgrade it to it's newest version possible to be up to date enough to be fully compatible with wine 7.0. One dude on the side said you need to use the older version of wine and another person said, then you'd need a bit older version of FL Studio 20. but the point is my Debian 11 desktop is now bricked. the login process does not login and there are no environments options in the gear and white bar to the left of it to select. There are somehow a bunch of other debian login options, but they have different words before and after them, two of these and they load a black screen with alot of text and never progress to the desktop as they fail. So whatever I did now well, I still have the DD, IS there a repair install or option to go back to base Debian 11 on it? I don't want to have to reinstall it. but I'm betting it will be quick and easy this time around if I choose the extended package as opposed to standard and start with Gnome then add the KDE from there. I told you I tried the KDE straight up and got that black text screen that never progressed further or started up. I'm wondering if the root of all these problems is that this Debian 11 doesn't like my AMD RX 480 gpu and with every major change in the os I need to reinstall or do something in terminal with that zorg package.stevepusser wrote: ↑2022-11-02 00:25 Who told you that you need to run Sid in order to do whatever it was you wanted?

Re: Cannot login or select desktop environments after an upgrade from Debian 11 to sid unstable!
guys I turned it into a good essay now. Do I revert back to Debian 11? or do I have to reinstall? and should I just go for ubuntu then? I mean does anyone know just what to put into the tty1 to get this desktop to be able to fix the unstable so it boots?
Re: Cannot login or select desktop environments after an upgrade from Debian 11 to sid unstable!
Would upgrading from stable/bullseye to testing/bookworm give you what you need? That should be safer than using unstable, if so.
