Debian upgrade failing on ARMv7 Processor rev 1

#1 Post by suyogd03 »

Hi All,

I am new to this forum. I purchased WD MyCloud in 2015. As per the latest releases and WD Support https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/d ... a_id/29230 I cannot update the OS of the device, nor access it from a public network. My 3 TB device is just like a dumb NAS for me now.
I want to install OpenVPN on this device and get limited access to this drive from a public network. However, it needs an OS update. Details about OS and hardware are as below:
Processor:

Code: Select all

Processor       : ARMv7 Processor rev 1 (v7l)
processor       : 0
BogoMIPS        : 1299.25
processor       : 1
BogoMIPS        : 1292.69
Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp neon vfpv3 tls
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant     : 0x2
CPU part        : 0xc09
CPU revision    : 1
Hardware        : Comcerto 2000 EVM
Revision        : 0001
Serial          : 0000000000000000
Operating System:

Code: Select all

PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie)"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="8"
VERSION="8 (jessie)"
ID=debian
My update command is failing with the following error:

The device likely contains packages that are not from debian. There is high probability those will stop working if you upgrade without following an upgrade path supported by the manufacturer.

Debian Jessie is not supported by Debian project anymore (end of life), see https://www.debian.org/releases/jessie/ . Updating the software of your nas without losing all your data is a your decision and responsibility. The chances of something going wrong are high with high probability to brick your nas. If I were you, I wouldn't do it unless you have a second level backup.

Thank you @Aki,
I'm upgrading is to install OpenVPN. This is just to access my WDMycloud. It is not supported by WD as well from last one years.

If you want to try, you can probably use the "--allow-unauthenticated" option:

Code: Select all

apt-get --allow-unauthenticated install openvpn

Hello @Aki ,

Somehow, after command execution, I can't access the NAS using FTP, SFTP, or SSH. I can ping the IP. However, I cannot access it. I should have taken a backup of the data. Anyway, I will check with SATA to USB cable to get a backup and then explore further on this flow.
It might take a month as there are some other high priorities.
