[Software] How to disappear a white screen after running startX command in Debian

#1 Post by alexparvizi »

I am going to run the Chromium on Xorg in Debian 11. I set the below command in ~/.Xinitrc and ~/.Xsession. Whenever I run 'startX' command, the Chromium is loaded successfully; however, a white screen appears for a few milliseconds. I appreciate it if anybody helps me to skip this screen.

Code: Select all

echo /usr/bin/chromium --kiosk --no-sandbox --ignore-gpu-blocklist --window-size=1920,1080 >> ~/.xinitrc

Guessing, but maybe sleep one second before calling chromium?
we see things not as they are, but as we are.

don't pipe thru xinitrc. execute chromium as the X11 client directly, as

startx /usr/bin/chromium --kiosk --no-sandbox --ignore-gpu-blocklist --window-size=1920,1080

Thank you for the solution. It did not solve the problem. I also uninstall gnome completely and re-installed Xorg and it did not work. I realized that when the command launches a web application, the white screen is visible for a longer time.

Code: Select all

startx /usr/bin/chromium --kiosk --no-sandbox --ignore-gpu-blocklist --window-size=1920,1080 http://localhost:3001
This is the /var/log/Xorg.1.log

Thanks for the solution. I ran the Chromium directly through startX command and unfortunately the issue was not resolved.

Hello,
What about starting the xserver with the -br option or the -background none option ?

Thank you. I could not find how to update Xserver but I could change Xsession's background by the below tags. They change the background but the white screen appears on top of the background.

Code: Select all

xsetroot -solid black

I also added the below commands to ~/.xinitrc and they did not work. Somebody had the same issue in Arch but I do not use openbox.

Code: Select all

xsetroot -bg black

man X

man startx

The answers to passing a display background color are therein. xsetroot is a client program run "after" the xserver has started. The correct command line to startx sets it at X11 startup.

here...this gets u started

Code: Select all

 startx [ [ client ] options ... ] [ -- [ server ] [ display ] options ... ]
