[SOLVED] PowerEdge 1900

#1 Post by sphawk »

Hello,
I'm trying to install debian on a PowerEdge 1900.
I removed DVD and installed 2 rack for 3.5 bay (connected to SATA port A and C).
Into BIOS -> Embedded SATA in ATA Mode and disabled Integrated RAID Controller (just for now).
Connected the HDD (Seagate ST3500).
BIOS show "SATA Port C ...... Hard Drive". Good boy.
Power on, F11 (boot menu) and I start installation from USB key.
When installer reach "partition disks" step, the SATA disk is not detected.

Alt-Ctrl-F2.

Code: Select all

~ # lspci | grep SATA
00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 631xESB/632xESB/3100 Chipset SATA IDE Controller (rev 09)
~ # dmesg | grep SATA
[ 1.517084] ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xcc78 ctl 0xcc70 bmdma 0xcc40 irq 23
[ 1.517085] ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xcc60 ctl 0xcc58 bmdma 0xcc48 irq 23
Some commands are not available (lsblk, lshw, hwinfo, fdisk...) so I can't get info about connected HDD.
Just to check, I've tried to install Ubuntu server but the installer crash (like windows?!).

I successfully installed ESXi 5.1U3 (apparently is the only OS can be installed).

Code: Select all

lspci | grep SATA
0000:00:1f.2 Mass storage controller: Intel Corporation 31xESB/632xESB/3100 Chipset SATA Storage Controller IDE [vmhba0]
Same info.
Any ideas?

I found the problem...
The HDD was part of a RAID array.
Wiped and now my beloved deby work like a charm.
My fault
