Which .deb contrib packaging files need to be updated?

Here you can discuss every aspect of Debian. Note: not for support requests!

Which .deb contrib packaging files need to be updated?

#1 Post by jahway603 »

Hi,

I'm having trouble finding documentation on which files need to be updated in the contrib/Debian directory when you update your .deb packaged application to a new version. Can anyone point me in the correct direction on this?

Much appreciated for any and all help here! Also was not sure which sub-forum to post in, so hope this is the correct one.

And which application(s)?

The way it works, if you have the contrib section enabled, an application in main may suggest a package in non-free or contrib, and if you tell apt to install suggested packages, it will get the current version for your distrelease in in either section.

It's against Debian policy to have DFSG-compliant packages depend on or recommend packages in non-free or contrib, they can only suggest.
