Blanket: Ambient Noise App For Linux

#1 Post by sunrat »

This is really cool! Blanket generates background sounds to calm your day. Or noisy sounds if your day is too calm.

It's not in the Debian repo but the MX version installed and runs perfectly for me in Bullseye. Download from here:- https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/b/blanket/
And install:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install ./blanket_0.5.0+git20211008-1~mx21+1_all.deb

I've had an app like that for years. Makes a noise if it's quiet, gives you something to do when you're relaxing......

Code: Select all

apt install wife

The only problem with that is when you try to

Code: Select all

apt remove wife
it takes half your system away!

:D :D

Never installed that one. I did several times

Code: Select all

apt install girlfriend
but it always crashed after a while.

Why install all of this stuff when you could simply sleep in the server room? :D

Thanks for this, nice program.

I normally use

Code: Select all

mpv http://198.27.120.235:8850
but it's good to have lightweight offline option.

I like how the balance of different sounds can be adjusted to one's preference. Birds, waves, wind, thunder, party, etc., and there is a nice range of sounds.

I guess if you installed wife, you might have to do that sometimes anyway.

lol when I first started working for myself my office was in our bedroom which had 2 giant unracked servers running on a reinforced nightstand, the server noise gave off heat and white noise. Later when we moved and I had a proper rack/office I couldn't sleep at home until I put a fan in the corner, I still keep a fan running in the bedroom to this day for that type of white noise. :)

The Ambient Noise app is pretty neat though.

My ambient noise, to go to sleep, is old Mystery Science Theatre 3000 shows.
It's comforting to know Joel and the bots are working through an "experiment" :)

Fans are going here too. My wife can't sleep unless there's a breeze going, even in winter.
