I got a new laptop with a fresh debian installation. When idle the screens should turn off after the screensaver was shown for a few minutes. It worked fine with my old laptop. But with the new one if fails when an external monitor is connected (HDMI). Instead of turning off the displays, the screensaver is deactivated as if someone was touching the keyboard or mouse. The screens never are turned off. Also the laptop never goes into standby which should happen after further idling. So it's really like the idle time was interrupted.
kern.log shows only this entry (multiple times) for that time:
Code: Select all
[drm] Unknown EDID CEA parser results
"xset dpms force off" works: both screens turn off. [ edit: does not work. After a few seconds (I guess when the external monitor actually would shut down, both screens wake up and the desktop is shown) ]
I don't know how to find out what's causing it. Any ideas?
Thanks
