I just sent the new improved version to every forum member for free: even more nothingness, not even a gag box.
Don't wait up for delivery.

There used to be a program for Windows called Dr. Windows which would sit in the system tray and show a random message on occasion like "Your system is protected" with 50 default messages or make your own, but otherwise do nothing.
Maybe we could get a Linux port?

Years ago I hacked up a message notifier which would show every 20 minutes "Get off your arse" so I'd remember to stretch occasionally.

Now that could be useful for those of us that have old eyes and need to look away and refocus.

Code: Select all

notify-send 'Hello world!' 'This is an example notification.'
Just put that in a script, edit message to taste, and run with a cron job or systemd timer. Simples!

There are heaps of other ways too - https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Desktop_notifications
