[Discussion] Google Chrome installation fails

#1 Post by outzen »

Have a fresh installation of Debian 11- first thing I tried to install is google chrome browser. Followed various installation guides - techstuff.net, or Linuxia.com and others - but nothing works. When doing sudo apt update I get;
"Err:4 http://d.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable InRelease The following signatures couldnt be verified because the public key is not available: No_PUBKEY 4EB27DB2A3B88B8B""
and "E: the following repositoy http://d.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable InRelease is not signed

Can anybody tell me what to do? :-)

When you manually download and install the Chrome.deb file, it automatically adds the repository and it's key for you.

But, now that chromium is reasonably up to date alongside chrome, why not use that?

I did the same :)

Download .deb file from Google Chrome site. I have Debian 11 with Gnome, so I used (Gnome) Software to install.

Started Chrome, logged in, all good :)
