Missing drivers (iwlwifi-500005.ucode) [solved]
Missing drivers (iwlwifi-500005.ucode) [solved]
Hi...Linux noob here, so please be gentle.
I'm trying to install Debian on my 6 year old Asus M51V laptop, and I'm getting a message about missing firmware files, namely: : iwlwifi-500005.ucode, : iwlwifi-500004.ucode, : iwlwifi-500003.ucode, : iwlwifi-500002.ucode, : iwlwifi-500001.ucode.
I found what I thought was the solution here: https://packages.debian.org/sid/firmware-iwlwifi - a binary firmware package for Intel Wireless cards. I put the package onto a usb stick and when prompted by the Debian install, inserted the usb stick, but no joy.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Make sure the USB stick is FAT-formatted, create a /firmware directory and place the firmware files there.

Thanks for that advice! Pardon my ignorance, but how do I create a /firmware directory on a usb stick?

Two minutes after I posted that last reply, I thought "oh, that really was a dumb question!" - by creating a directory, I'm guessing you just mean, create a folder on the usb drive called /firmware and put the package file in it? Is that right?

Hello,
You answered a ten years old post. A "directory" is as synonym for "folder" or (since seems you are an Italian native speaker) "cartella". You probably know how to create a "directory" in an USB pen drive. Anyway, it could be easier for you to install Debian from the latest Debian RC installer which now also handles the firmware installation automatically to a greater extent.lucaroller1234 wrote: ↑2023-05-24 22:18formattare is my stick in FAT32 ok?
