Re: lost browser connectivity
Just to be sure, have you tried connecting directly to an IP? For instance https://130.89.148.77/ (debian.org's IP). Also, have you tried other browsers, links for example?
Re: lost browser connectivity
can't access even using the direct ip with firefox or chrome
can access with lynx
can access with lynx

Re: lost browser connectivity
Whenever I have a browser misbehave I rename its hidden directory (such as .mozilla/firefox) and restart it. A new hidden directory will be created. If the browser then behaves I know that the cause is something I did, usually related to my efforts to block ads, etc.

i don't know if the mcs endpoint error is a problem given that chrome works when i start it with the logging enabled
i've done some googlling on it but there doesn't seem to be a fix

Re: lost browser connectivity
This is an easy test which can eliminate many possibilities either way. Chrome has a similar hidden directory; all browsers do.
This being Debian you might have fewer problems with Chromium. Again, worth a test.
Re: lost browser connectivity
yeah but you are not reading what i said. i have not used firefox in a long while for a profile change to be the issue.
there is something that is happening with the underlying chrome engine (to satisfy you chromium displays the same problem as chrome and firefox).

Re: lost browser connectivity
essentially if the main engine falls, what i learnt is you have to find truly alternative browsers - i went with konqueror to find this solutionmilomak wrote: ↑2023-01-26 19:26yeah but you are not reading what i said. i have not used firefox in a long while for a profile change to be the issue.

i suspect firefox, opera and brave are toast from now. i'll stick with chrome and have konqueror (or some other i research) as the backup.

What is you Debian release ? Is it SID according to your message banner ?
What is the name of the Debian package you used to install the firefox program ?
What is the release of firefox as reported in the "About Firefox" window ?
What is "icaclient" in the subject of the first post and how it relates to firefox program ?

Re: [solved]lost browser connectivity - icaclient
In order to distinguish you were reporting about firefox or firefox-esr packages from Debian unstable. I was interested in the exact firefox version you were reporting about (https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/firefox) to give more context to the thread for the benefit of other readers, since you reported that firefox (not firefox-esr) is "broken" in Debian unstable/sid.milomak wrote: ↑2023-06-05 20:19what are you trying to ascertain?Code: Select all

for what it's worth the esr version in sid has the same problem. which standards to reason given this was an issue with icaclient since 2021 and impacts chrome, chromium, opera and brave in the same way.Aki wrote: ↑2023-06-06 05:01In order to distinguish you were reporting about firefox or firefox-esr packages from Debian unstable.
