If we could get rid of that "we use cookies" popup without opening up our browsers to cookies that last across browsing sessions. I mean, the sophisticated web lurker understands that most sites use cookies, and they also generally choose to disable persistence of cookies across sessions...and exceptions for domains sets a bad precedent. It says the behaviour is OK.
The repetition of the popup on login has become kind of annoying.

Install "I don't care about cookies" add-on. It blocks that popup from almost every site.

I just use ublock to nuke the popup. Screw your cookies, and screw your cookie prompt as well. Works with a wide range of other, similarly obnoxious things too.

Difference of philosophies here. I'm not really into adding another layer to remove something that IMHO, is kind of frivolous in the first place. and then can I "trust" the add-on? I don't see the source on the devs webpage...That's just as bad as trusting cellphone apps.

looks like ublock has source on github. Will check it out, but it is still the less preferable route...thanks!

On that, as if you need another reason not to trust it, "I don't care about cookies" was recently aquired by Avast.
There's a fork though: https://github.com/OhMyGuus/I-Still-Don ... ut-Cookies
As for UBO, if you subscribe "Fanboy's Annoyance List", you don't even need to explicitly block the cookie prompt here, it's included.
Code: Select all
Filter ##div.cookie-notice
Filter list Fanboy's Annoyance List
Context forums.debian.net

I noticed the github page for UBO. building it from source is on my todo list now. Thanks!steve_v wrote: ↑2023-06-16 00:25On that, as if you need another reason not to trust it, "I don't care about cookies" was recently aquired by Avast.

One could always run Gentoo... Compiling from source is the default installation method over here
On content blockers in general, even without building from source I'd still consider ublock (or equivalent) a lesser evil than allowing any old website to do whatever it wants on your machine. The modern 'net is a right hive of scum and villany (most of whom wear suits), and frankly I can't stand even a few minutes of it without at least basic adblocking and javascript filtering.
