[Feature] RSS Feeds ... we has it.

#1 Post by donald »

Today, Debian User Forums strikes against the hegemony of social media despots and declares our sovereign ability to reach the masses via ATOM/RSS feeds.

If you are logged in you may have noticed that each sub-forum now bears a RSS icon which will allow you to view the headers of threads in those forums.
If you are not logged in, depending on your browser, you may not see them.

All is well. The establishment doesn't want you to know this but, depending on your browser the RSS icon may appear on your address bar, if not you may have a browser that requires a plug in to see the RSS link, in either event, the main feed for the forums is: forums.debian.net/feed.php or app.php/feed.

Subscribe to our awesome.

Thanks. I read this forum most days. RSS feeds are a fantastic way of getting new content from a regular source.

It does work very well in Liferea, thank you.
Maybe it should be included as one of the default feeds.

the main feed for the forums is: forums.debian.net/feed.php or app.php/feed.
...which is a feed with all the new posts (aka comments). But is there a feed with only the new topics?

I'd think that a filter in the reader software would be needed and not a separate feed.

And how exactly would you separate new topics from just new posts? I doubt the entry's link would contain ?t= instead of ?p=...

I don't know, it's not my quest to do so...

In liferea the post are not even threaded per topic, just jumbled in chrono order, fine with me.

So, you say that "a filter in the reader software would be needed" but you don't have a slightest clue how to achieve that.

Then, why do you suggest it's exactly "a filter in the reader software" that is "needed", and not something else? Like, a proper feed, for instance? And why not just don't say anything if you can't substantiate your claims?

Forums just being forums. Nothing has really changed for the last 20 years.
