[Software] sources list problem

#1 Post by mixedebian »

When I update I get this

W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'contrib/binary-amd64/Packages' as repository 'http://deb-multimedia.org trixie InRelease' doesn't have the component 'contrib' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'contrib/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://deb-multimedia.org trixie InRelease' doesn't have the component 'contrib' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'contrib/i18n/Translation-en' as repository 'http://deb-multimedia.org trixie InRelease' doesn't have the component 'contrib' (component misspelt in sources.list?)
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'contrib/i18n/Translation-en_US' as repository 'http://deb-multimedia.org trixie InRelease' doesn't have the component 'contrib' (component misspelt in sources.list?)

My sources list is

deb-src http://security.debian.org/debian-security/ trixie-security/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://deb-multimedia.org/ trixie main non-free contrib
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian trixie main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian trixie-updates main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-security trixie-security main contrib non-free non-free-firmware

Help I can't see where the error is.

It tells you in the output: is deb-multimedia.org doesn't have contrib.

There have been a number of posts about dependency issues caused by using deb-multimedia sources. It's better to remove it from sources and just download any packages from there and install manually.
I haven't had any need for packages from there since libdvd-pkg was made available in Debian official repos.

Thanks for the info. I interpreted the output as that I had misspelled contrib. I just removed contrib from the list and all works fine. I went to the multimedia repository website and saw that if I needed anything that I wasn't getting from Debian, I could probably find it there. More than likely won't happen, but now, thanks to you all, I have a better understanding of how those repos work. Thanks.

I recommend to completely remove deb-multimedia from sources.

You really only need the one line:
deb https://deb.debian.org/debian trixie main contrib non-free non-free-firmware

Don't use and not recommending, but I'd like to point out the website is clear about the recommended form of sources list entry for Trixie (and doesn't mention contrib): deb https://www.deb-multimedia.org trixie main non-free.
