[solved] No sound on new laptop, please someone help me.

#1 Post by PsychoHermit »

Greetings folks,

Got a new laptop HP Envy x360 Model 15-fh0023dx running Debian testing and the sound isn't working.

I went into alsa mixer and unmuted it but no joy. Looking at lsmod the sound modules seem to be loaded.

Searching the Internet is bringing up outdated info, I can't seem to find anything current. The wiki didn't help, there's nothing specific on it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

A quick question, do you have the Sound Open Firmware package installed (it is in a non free package called firmware-sof-signed)?

I could not get sound working on my current laptop, and a couple of others I worked on last month, until I loaded that package.

The sound hardware was detected, but when I looked in dmesg, the firmware was missing.

I installed that package, but sound is still not working. What else do I have to do?

I'm running kernel 6.5.0-5 amd 64

The ALC245 sound chip is not yet supported, marking as solved.

Thanks,
