I'm trying to make my own theme for gnome. I couldn't find the original css file. Please help.

/usr/share/themes ?
for xfce I simply copied a theme to a new name, made the index file unique, and mod it.
That is a global solution. For a single user you can place theme overrides in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css
