@Aki
Well, here I am:

→Mate system monitor seems to work:

Image

How did you install Debian in these three computers ? Did you use the Debian Installer ISO or the Debian Live ISO ?
On two machines I did a fresh install, while on one I have updated it from Debian 11. On the computers where I did a fresh install I had Debian 11 previously. The fresh install has been done starting from a Debian Live ISO.
What is the output of the following reportbug command (it will report dependencies for the affected package) ?
CODE: SELECT ALL

reportbug --template --no-bug-script

Code: Select all

reportbug --template --no-bug-script
No package specified or we were unable to find it in the apt cache; stopping.

Thanks for the information. About the machine you upgraded from Debian 11 to 12: was it originally installed using a Debian Live iso ?

Yes, that’s right: the name of the package is missing from the command; the complete command is:

Code: Select all

reportbug --template --no-bug-script mate-applets
Can you send its output ?

@Aki

First of all, I don't know why my screenshot showing mate system monitor while it's working is not visible in my previous post: maybe because it's in png format?

Anyway:
Thanks for the information. About the machine you upgraded from Debian 11 to 12: was it originally installed using a Debian Live iso ?
Yes, I originally installed Debian 11 through a Debian live iso.

Yes, that’s right: the name of the package is missing from the command
Of course, I was still sleeping evidently :? :shock:

Looks like you linked to a web page containing the image rather than directly to the image itself. I'm not sure if you can direct link images from GDrive. Posting to a dedicated image sharing site such as postimage.org , imgbb.com , or Imgur may be easier, just make sure you link to the image and not to a web page.

I've just discovered that it's possible through a third party service like this: https://sites.google.com/site/gdocs2direct/

There is also another option that seems to work: https://thestampforum.boards.net/thread ... ages-forum

I share hoping this could be useful also for others.

Hallo again!

Anybody knows if this issue will be solved or if is it considered an official bug? If so, where can I see it?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

Welcome back! :-)

From the Debian Bug Tracking System point of view, the bug is still opened: From the point of view of Mate Project (https://mate-desktop.org/), there hasn't been a newer version since 2021-08-10 (current version is 1.26); Debian versions are:

Code: Select all

$ rmadison mate-applets
mate-applets | 1.20.3-2      | oldoldstable   | source, amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386, mips, mips64el, mipsel, s390x

mate-applets | 1.26.1-2      | unstable-debug | source
I wasn't able to replicate your issue. It could be interesting to get a gdb record or a strace log of the applet starting and running in your installation.

Hallo! How can I do a strace log for mate-applets?

I've read some documentations about the strace command, but evidently I don't write the right syntax... thanks in advance (as usual!!)

You can collect the strace output for the mate-netspeed-applet in this way (the strace and procps packages must be installed; note: the mate-netspeed-applet must be already running):

Code: Select all

strace -p $(pidof mate-netspeed-applet) -o netspeed.log
As soon as the command is issued, it will start recording all system calls made by the running mate-netspeed applet (which must already be running). After starting the program, you can try to open the "Device details" window of mate-netspeed-applet (which you reported in the first post of the discussion). Note that the log file will grow rapidly. After replicating the issue, you can stop the strace command in the terminal with the CTRL-C key combination. The output of the command will be stored in the file named netspeed.log, which you can analyze, compress and share.

Hallo!

Here[url=https://rentry.co/ovnwn] there is the content of netspeed.log.

I had to keep it short, all the sites like pastebin asks for very short contents :-(

Do you use the same type of network adapter/connection with all of them (i.e. same wireless adapter or tethering with the same smartphone) ?

@debianpwr:
You are currently using a Broadcom BCM4313 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter [103c:145c] driven by the "wl" kernel module). Can you test the MATE network monitor applet with a different wireless adapter (if any) ?

Thanks for reporting back.

This may indicate a problem with the wl kernel module that controls the wireless device. It may not be exposing the necessary data to the network monitor applet.
