So I had originally tried the bookworm GNOME iso with the calamares install, but it came with a LOT of extra bloaty stuff, so I tried again and did the normal tui network installer. One thing I did like though is that my printer (HP Envy 4500) worked out of the box driveless as a network printer.
I am at my wits end trying to figure it out what I need to do to get it working with starting in the netinstall. Cups was installed and it feels like everything is correct. I added system-config-printer, and that doesn't see it on the network. I tried telling it to find it but it asks for me to log in and both my user/password, user/wifi password and wifi admin user/password all don't work.
I tried hp-lip but it can't do it without a usb (it's a network printer)
I'm on Debian 12 GNOME. It literally just worked, was found, added and I was able to print instantaly from that installation media. So I know it's possible. It also just works out of the box on Fedora for whatever it's worth. But I'm several hours and have tried:
https://wiki.debian.org/Printing
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debi ... ng.en.html
https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSDriverlessPrinting
https://manpages.debian.org/bookworm/hp ... .1.en.html
and this thread, but it's not super relevant but it's the closest thing I could find that might be able to help:
viewtopic.php?p=785201&hilit=network+pr ... me#p785201
I still cannot even get my computer to see the printer on the network. Help. Please before I have even less hair.

I always install my Debian 12 gnome desktop with the small netinstall .iso. As long as you have working network, it should not matter what media you use to install if you also select gnome desktop environment during installation?

In that case, I still have the 12.4 iso, I will liveboot and see. It may be that printing is broken on the 12.5 update then. . . Thanks - will report back @lindi

When you add your printer and select the make and model is it in the list?
I suppose you've installed hplip? When you did the full install with Calamares you say you had no further setup to do? In that case there must be something else to install.
Som ideas off the top of my head:
cups-core-drivers
foomatic-db

It does not even show up as available to add to the list. My computer doesn't even acknowledge it's existence (I do not have firewall running)bbbhltz wrote: ↑2024-03-06 18:57 When you add your printer and select the make and model is it in the list?

Yes, I tried hplip - It requires a usb connection to set it up though, not network style. So I gave up on it and un-installed it since that was never installed previously, and I want it as a network printer.

And the last issue - gotta reboot. (sorry) @bbbhltz
Now she's up and moving! Thanks! It was the foomatic.db that was missing! Thanks
