Can't change gnome cursor theme on Bookworm

I have been trying to change the cursor theme on my fresh bookworm install with gnome-tweaks and also with dconf.editor. It seems that no matter what cursor theme i change to it always displays the default Adwaita theme even tho dconf-editor displays the new theme selected at /org/gnome/desktop/interface/cursor-theme

Anyone got any suggestion, 6 months after I am still experiencing the same bug.
