#1 Post by francoisp »

hi,

I use traditionnaly the standard process :
  • aptitude update
  • sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
yesturday afternoon it faild and proposed to redo it with a --full-resolver option , until that all is logical.

BUT here is the point it looped asking forever and ever to confirm retry [Y/N]

so I run it back this way
  • yes | sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
it stills loop forever since that again and again
currenty gone to
Opened : 807501 ; Closed : 513578 ; [............] conflicts 103
link to a screenshot https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RYxmrY ... sp=sharing

it is now about 18th hour run still incrementing forever

what to do ?

yes it is on sid, & in fact I hope, it is only some sort of package management error that can be solved, waiting for new updates, or a apt tool maintenance or something, else I will plan a re-install.

process finished that night with an logical " out of memory " error, so I just verified all was clean an stopped the station.
It didn't break the setup, but oy course I have the previous version of each I think (I just verified for a few of them).

But I want to understand that situation (if I made something wrong too) to learn more.

Sid is undergoing major transition currently. It's recommended not to upgrade until it's done which will take some time yet. See - viewtopic.php?t=158477

Moved to Testing and Unstable subforum.

I've had some difficulty with aptitude during this transition. Suggest using apt and paying close attention during this transition - I've been able to upgrade daily but close attention to what your package manager wants to do will be required.
