I have a seasoned laptop which nevertheless has 8Gb of ram and runs debian stable with no issues whatsoever. I noticed that when I use vlc to watch a movie, I often use more than 70% of my CPU and the laptop gets hot. If I use e.g. mpv player, I have nothing if the sort and the cpu usage to watch a movie is around 6-7%. Is vlc such a memory hog? Or is there some setting I need to twist?
Thanks

[Solved] Vlc using a lot of CPU
Re: Vlc using a lot of CPU
Thanks.
So far, I got some inspiration from
https://wiki.debian.org/HardwareVideoAc ... re_Support
After enabling vdpau video decoder in vlc, the cpu consumption looks much better. I will close this thread in a few days if the cpu usage stays reasonable.
