[ Solved] All my desktop icons are gone?

Last winter I installed Debian 12 on my laptop with the xfce desktop. The Gnome desktop is also installed, but I'm not sure if that's relevant.
Anyway, this has running just fine, no complaints whatsoever. But for some reason, all my desktop icons/launchers are now gone.
And the only thing I did, was boot up the laptop with an external harddrive. Something I have done before without any issues.
FYI: Logging in with root there are some icons. And the icons are in the desktop folder, in Thunar, they are just not shown on the desktop.
Is there something that can de done, to somehow restore my icons to the desktop?

Try deleting ~/.cache/sessions

After deleting the files in the sessions folder, and rebooting the laptop, all of my icons are back again. Thanks a million

(I'll try and make a mental note of that, in case this happens again)
