Hi all,
Since my last apt update yesterday my Plasma desktop turns weird with black squares instead of borders, icons or buttons. Look at the screenshot! It occurs only on kde applications, everything is ok with gtk.
I run a Debian SID up to date server with bi Xeon, Supermicor motheroard and AMD Radeon Pro WX graphic card.
Do you experience the same troubles with an up to date SID ?
Thank you for your answers.

Re: Plasma turns weird
Probably a casualty of the massive time_t transition. It's a dangerous period in Sid at present. It is recommended to wait until all is clear before upgrading. See - [SID - Unstable] update stuck at resolving dependencies
In Sid one should always do very regular system backups especially before large upgrades, then you could restore to before the upgrade.

Re: Plasma turns weird
Hi Guys,
Just to be sure, are you still having weird plasmas with black squares? As I changed my graphics card when the time_t transition started, I'm not really sure if my problem is independent of my hardware...

Re: Plasma turns weird
I've had a couple of occasions where dropdown menus, and once Thunderbird, were just blank black rectangles. It's easy to fix, just run:
Code: Select all
plasmashell --replace

Re: Plasma turns weird
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this don't fix anything in my case. The problem exists with a Wayland and a X plasma session. My graphic card is AMD / Radeon Pro WX 5100.

Hello,
Have you tried creating a new user to rule out a possible problem in your home directory? This is just a guess, but I'm asking because your problem is over a month old and it seems no one has encountered the same one.

Yes I've tried with a new user, in Wayland and in X session. And I agree with you, no one seems to encounter the same problem.
I have no idea if it is a problem related with my hardware or related with my setup.
And my system is up to date, I update every day with aptitude.

Re: Plasma turns weird
Well, I found the issue and solve it thanks to this old thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/j ... k_squares/
In summary, the problem was a conflict between libqt5quick5-gles and plasma. I've to remove libqt5quick5-gles and instal the non-gles version of this lib : libqt5quick5
