[Software] firmware package wifi centrino advanced-n 6205?

#1 Post by hthi »

debian 12
wifi centrino advanced-n 6205

https://wiki.debian.org/iwlwifi
non free repository is not enabled. Is there a non free deb package I can
download and install which is specific for the pci wifi card centrino
advanced-n 6205? Such that I get to minimize the amount of non free
software I have to install on the system in order to get a
working wifi card? Thanks.

The wiki article you linked has your wireless card in the "Supported Devices" page. All you need to do is install firmware-iwlwifi from here - https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/al ... i/download

Good luck!

you need to do is install firmware-iwlwifi
Correct. But the package contains a
bunch of files.
https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/al ... i/filelist
If the wifi card only requires a few of those files to
work, I want to identify them and only add those files
to a new installed debian system. The task
is to install firmware-iwlwifi package on a debian system. Then
identify the relevant firmware files on the system. Make a copy of them
and then add them to a new installed debian system. A
system that has no non free software installed.

We're gonna check file access times.

Add "atime" as a mount option for your root filesystem in /etc/fstab. Reboot the machine.

Next, do this

Code: Select all

find /lib/firmware -atime -1
This should give you a list of files in /lib/firmware that have been accessed in the last 24 hours.
