Forum for Security related discussions
Forum for Security related discussions
We have a forum for Installation, Graphical Environments & Desktops, System and Network configuration, HW, etc. But we do not seem to have a forum dedicated for security discussions on Debian. Is there a sub-forum dedicated for discussions on Security? Is there a mailing list for Discussion on Debian security?

Yep.
https://lists.debian.org/debian-security/
There are hundreds of mailing lists - if you want to check out other mailing lists here's the mailing list portal: https://lists.debian.org - you can browse on the web or subscribe to any of them.
we see things not as they are, but as we are.

Re: Forum for Security related discussions
Yep - that's about right
Maybe suggesting the the creation of a security forum in Forum information, requests, and feedback. would be the thing to do?
edit: As a matter of fact I'm gonna move this thread into that forum.

Not sure we're gonna need to ask for input but I can do that. I'll send a note to the rest of the admin team.

Re: Forum for Security related discussions
Personally I'd expect insufficient traffic to warrant a dedicated forum. Importance does not translate to volume. The subject is scattered among the sub forums and bringing them together does make sense, but I think few search, or find, previous content covering the subject and start over anyway (ruminate).
A dedicated forum would not change that. I'd like to see this subject in 'General Debian'. It is a subject beyond Debian and in that forum the Debian specific methods.

Well there are many distros which are based on Debian. Debian is by far the biggest trend setter in Linux world along with RH and Arch. For those Distros which are based out of Debian and which do not have security related discussion forums that will help. Also in current environment and the threats that are faced online by users it might be helpfull to have a dedicated forum or a subject related to Security.
If that is not done then atleast tags should be introduced so that we can atleast tag some discussions as required. The number of tags can be restricted. If required the tag names can also be restricted so that they are not created by everyone and there is some form of uniformity.

Re: Forum for Security related discussions
I'd also like to see a sub-forum for security and security related topics.
