After upgrading to Debian 12 I'm no longer able to print on my local network.
I've tried deleting the printer from the system but cups re-installs it immediately
When printing form the cups webpage the printer job appears as completed with no output, on the system printer status appears as printer error
The printer and network are working properly since I can print from a win-machine
Any clues?
Appreciate your help

You might try starting from the Debian Wiki:Berforfree wrote: ↑2024-08-06 20:02 After upgrading to Debian 12 I'm no longer able to print on my local network.

Re: No printing
HP Laserjet
The printer is wired to a router
I can access the router menu, the usb memory connected to it
I can access the printer's menu through a web page
After purging cups from the system and related pkgs. when I open a file, select print, the printers I had installed still appear there. Log out or restar do not change this. Where is such information stored?

Re: No printing
I found the issue, it is related to the driver-less printing which cups installs automatically
I've disabled cups-browsed so cups stops looking for printers and installing them automatically, then I've deleted all printers and reinstall one manually which works fine. Although I just have one printer installed under "Printer Settings" each time I select the print option of a file it keeps showing 2 printers the one I've manually installed and a 2nd one which is the fu..ing driver-less option
How do I get rid of this one?

Re: No printing
Maybe something with https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/cups-core-drivers?

Re: No printing
What have you got against the driverless option? Use of drivers in CUPS is deprecated and will not be supported in the fairly near future.
https://wiki.debian.org/SystemPrintingHowever, it is as well to be aware that drivers and PPDs are deprecated in CUPS and eventually they will not be catered for as they are now. This has been a long-term objective of the CUPS project for some time.
Within one or two years the complexion of the printing system on Debian will undergo fundamental change with the release of CUPS 3.0. This version will no longer support printing with PPD files and therefore, by implication, not support vendor drivers, whether they be free or non-free. Drivers will still exist, but they will come in a new format as a Printer Application from OpenPrinting. The focus will be completely on supporting only standards-conforming driverless IPP printers.

If you can't get on with driverless printing, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Your system is publishing the printer over the network so that devices on the network can use it without installing a driver. You could use it to print from a phone for example. Of course if the printer is driverless, you can do that from the printer anyway, but it means that even printers that are not driverless-enabled can be used by any device on the network. Pretty cool? If you don't think so, you can turn it off.Berforfree wrote: ↑2024-09-02 01:05 Although I just have one printer installed under "Printer Settings" each time I select the print option of a file it keeps showing 2 printers the one I've manually installed and a 2nd one which is the fu..ing driver-less option
