[Software] Firefox 128.3.0 esr lost url completion function
[Software] Firefox 128.3.0 esr lost url completion function
I recently upgraded to firefox 128.3.0 esr. I have found that the url completion function that appends .com etc to the end of a url typed in the url bar with no suffix... For example, typing startpage in the url bar and hitting enter would append the .com automatically and take you to startpage.com, Now a screen appears stating it can't find that url and asks if I want to go to startpage.com. Searching has been futile and the one setting in about:config that would enable url completion no longer exists. Has anyone else run across this?
Thanks
Thanks

In about:config what settings do you have for?
Code: Select all
browser.urlbar.autoFill
browser.urlbar.autoFill.adaptiveHistory.enabled

Both are set to "true"

What are you expecting to happen? I always thought the autofill worked for sites you have in history or bookmarks which is what happens on mine whenever I type I partial URL for a site (adaptiveHistory is set to false here.). I have the same version of FF - 128.3.0esr
When I type "start" in the bar it completes "page.com". Have you cleared history or something? It wouldn't make sense to just add ".com" to any random word typed in.

Before this update, I could type a website name in the url bar and hit enter at which time FF would add the suffix and navigate to the site. Example, I could type startpage in the url bar and hit enter and FF would add the .com and navigate to the site. Now a screen pops up and asks if I meant startpage.com... I believe it also worked with other extensions if I had manually entered the complete url previously. It worked perfectly before this latest update.

Still works that way here. Must be something different in your configuration.bryanmc wrote: 2024-10-08 12:13 Before this update, I could type a website name in the url bar and hit enter at which time FF would add the suffix and navigate to the site. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I have tweaked lots of config settings in the past with some unintended and/or unwanted consequences and had a hard time working out which ones I should change back.

If you toggle this option in the about:config and restart does it change anything?
Are you using any extension?
(You could also go to about:profiles and create a new profile and set it as default to see if the function returns to normal)
Code: Select all
browser.fixup.alternate.enabled

Strange thing is, I haven't been into about:config in months...sunrat wrote: 2024-10-08 13:39Still works that way here. Digging further, it appears that browser.fixup.alternate was removed in V119 browser.fixup.alternate
Now I'm really grasping at straws as to what happened and how to fix it.

I'll throw a new twist into this. I installed regular firefox, imported my bookmarks and tested... Same result... firefox does not add the prefix or suffix when enter is pressed and I still get the "We can’t connect to the server at craigslist. Did you mean to go to www.craigslist.com? message.
