Intel AX211 wifi driver not working properly

#1 Post by alexeimok »

Hello!

I have a NUC14 with AX211 wifi. I followed the instructions from viewtopic.php?p=804356#p804356 and upgraded the kernel from bookwom backport to ver. 6.10. I then took iwlwifi-firmware from trixie and the required files were found. But now, I'm having Not valid error log pointer 0x0024B5C0 for RT uCode when loading the iwlwifi module. I see the issue is discussed here https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless ... -p/1608808 and it says there that the issue has been fixed in kernel 6.9.7. But I have 6.10... What am I missing?

Thanks a lot!

@alexeimok

I was just down this path myself
Here is what you are missing:

sudo apt install -t bookworm-backports firmware-iwlwifi
doing this will in turn do an update-initramfs -u at post install of the firmware

Aside: This will also pull down all other firmware packages you have installed as well.
reboot your pc,
You will have a working wifi card along with working bluetooth

Good Luck!

Thanks for a quick answer!

I installed Debian 12.7 from scratch. Then, added the bookworm-backports repo to sources.list. Then installed from there the linux-image-amd64 and kernel switched to 6.10.11+bpo-amd64. And finally I installed the firmware-iwlwifi from bookworm-backports too. Unfortunately, I have the same error :(

Install inxi from the repos, and report what

Code: Select all

inxi -Nxx
in the terminal says. That'll at least give some idea of what's going on with the driver.

Extra credit: Download, make a LiveUSB, and run a Live session of MX Linux 23 AHS (latest monthly snapshot), since it starts from a Bookworm base, but then adds many backports for "Advanced Hardware Support". I'm involved in it, so would like to see if works on your problem NUC.

Thanks for that option. I might try it in future!

@alexeimok

There is a new kernel 6.11.5 as of yesterday 11/16...(through bookworm-backports) update to this kernel then do the following,,,

1. sudo apt remove firmware-iwlwifi -y
2. go to this URL to download the debian sid version of firmware-iwlwifi
https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/fir ... i/download
(Right click top ftp://------ and SAVE AS)
3. go to your downloads folder were this deb file saved to
sudo dpkg -i firmware*.deb
4. sudo update-initramfs -u
5. reboot pc.
Your lost intel wifi card should reappear.

Dont like installing non Bookworm packages but bookworm-backports firmware-iwlwifi did not function at all.
This sid version is a few weeks newer than the bookworm-backports version FYI.

Good Luck

Weird...could it be as simple as this one simple trick?

viewtopic.php?t=159566

I got a lot of bug reports by searching the intertubes for that error message.

Hi!

@brcisna, thanks, but I see exactly the same behavior after the kernel update and the kernel module.
@stevepusser, thanks, I went over this post. Nothing there that could help me with my issue.
