I have a Debian 10 system with a Cinnamon Desktop. I just noticed a problem: the menu icon in the menu bar seems to have disappeared.
now I can't get to my apps or log out, switch users, or lock the screen. I need to restore this any ideas.
Yes I have kept the system going for some time as I don't want to mess with it as I have my RAID 5 running on it so I don't really know what will happen with an upgrade HELP!!!! ~~ Cris H
BTW my other boxes are Debin 12.x with Cinnamon as well this box here just does development.

Perhaps Cinnamon has a shortcut to a terminal emulator? Or just switch to a tty terminal <Ctrl><Alt><F1-4> and fix it!

OK I got logged in to ALT-CNTL F4 But I need to know 2 things
1. where can I get the 10.n Alive DVD
2 where is the cinf file located and What is it called?
~~ Cris H.
BTW I plan to do an in-place upgrade to Bookworn.I have a large array that I don't want to mess with. its a RAID 5 done on 3 x 2Gb Seagate Drives that have been spinning for 4-5 years and have no signs of trouble (knock on wood??!! (not apropos) LOL

Re: Debian 10 w/ Cinnamon stopped showing the menu icon
Got it working by noticing both a ~/.cinnamon folder and a ~/.config/cinnamon folder, and moving the contents of the former under the latter. This wiped all the panel shortcuts (except the "skel" defaults of File Cabinet and Terminal shortcuts). Easily recreated, now I have my bookworm "Mountains through a telescope" back!
