At the moment I am preparing for the oncoming change to trixie from bookworm with 2 installations on my bookworm desktop.
- A trixie in a VBox
and a
- trixie on an external SSD connected USB 3.
Not using trixie for a certain time, I do get on both systems (VBox and USB 3) after 5 min al lock screen.
Please see attached pics.
4.jpg is my setting under different bookworm installations. 'Not activating Lock screen when system is going to sleep' prevented in bookworm this behavior, but not in trixie here.
Could someone here please check?

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Xfce lock screen issue?
These don't seem to be the 4.20 screens that will go into Trixie.
Is xfce4-screensaver part of the install? Is light-locker still there? Possibly Trixie is still in transition and this switch hasn't been completed yet.
I have a live image of Trixie XFCE and will investigate when I'm at the computer.
https://xfce.org/about/tourThere is no dedicated "security" tab anymore. Lock screen management was massively simplified and "Light Locker" was dropped. "lock-on-sleep" is now synchronized with xfce4-session and xfce4-screensaver.
Screen locking settings are now only handled by xfce4-screensaver to avoid conflicts. A button to open xfce4-screensaver-preferences was added:

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Xfce lock screen issue?
Thx. I'll wait and hopefully others do a short check too. Could be caused by the change from Xfce 4.18 to Xfce 4.20 or it could be a sheer Debian thing? If confirmed ....FreewheelinFrank wrote: 2025-01-10 17:15 I have a live image of Trixie XFCE and will investigate when I'm at the computer.
Could then place a report at https://gitlab.xfce.org, but as we are on Debian, the prime address is a bug report.

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Xfce lock screen issue?
I'm pretty sure it's an XFCE 4.20 thing, with 4.20 "dropping" Light Locker (see previous quote).kalle123 wrote: 2025-01-10 18:41

I've been testing Testing, and I can confirm that light-locker is installed, xfce4-screensaver isn't, and the screen is locked when "Put to sleep after" and "Switch off after" are ticked in the Display tab.
The system also attempts to suspend after a period with nothing ticked, and screen lock is attempted but fails (as it does in Bookworm), presumably due to the same issue.
https://wiki.debian.org/Xfce#Suspend_an ... ght_issues
I think the only way to change this behaviour would be to configure light-locker directly.
xfce4-screensaver has been added to Testing. I tried uninstalling light-locker and installing xfce4-screensaver and the extra options in the XFCE tour screenshots appeared. It didn't have any effect, probably because a reboot with changes would be needed, which isn't possible in a live image.
The XFCE tour says xfce4-screensaver is going to handle screen locking in 4.20. I don't know if Debian Testing will switch to xfce4-screensaver at some point. Probably worth checking if there is a bug report for this.
Another thing I can look at is the xfce4-session config file in Trixie to see what the lock command is now.

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Xfce lock screen issue?
We are approaching the release change in near future and for a then 'stable' release that seen behavior is NOT OK for the average desktop user, I think.
NOT ticking that box here should make things clear. NO LOCK SCREEN! Light Locker we have in bookworm and it works there as expected.
I don't have a problem writing a bug report, BUT on what package?
I would pick xfce4-power-manager
bookworm 4.18.1-1 did as supposed and trixie testing 4.20.0-1 does not. Let the developers have a look!

The good news is everything seems to work with light-locker removed and xfce4-screensaver installed. (Logoff/Logon - hat tip to CwF).
Initially I set screen blank in the Display tab and the screen was locked after blanking Then I hit the "Screensaver management" button, and there is no locking when the screensaver is enabled and lock is not enabled.
I then went back to the Display tab and re-enabled blanking and the screen did not lock. The screensaver image did appear for a moment, but this could probably be avoided by setting the screensaver to blank screen.
I suppose the bug is in whatever package still has light-locker as a dependency and not xfce4-screensaver, as XFCE 4.20 cannot now change light-locker settings/

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Xfce lock screen issue?
Bug report is out.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... ug=1092854
Made it in a hurry and I am not writing 3 reports a week, but I think this issue should be cleared before release.
Pointed to this thread here ....
