It's actually X86 that is at risk. That's what is dying.

Most of the x86-64 doomsayers are typically unaware of the emerging mini-PC market, which claimed more than $21 billion in sales in 2023 (& I suspect very few of our Forum elders own mini-PCs). Considering the costs of mini-PCs are only a fraction of that of a typical desktop computer, the trend will be even more impressive in terms of units sold. As I mentioned in a separate thread, we are no longer buying desktop PCs, but will gradually replace them with mini-PCs. The overwhelming majority of mini-PCs comprise of AMD APUs, which are x86-64 based Ryzen CPU embedded with Radeon GPU. X86-64 is here to stay!

At the present time, essentially all the mini-PCs are of boringly tofu-like utilitarian design. This can change. Some may even adopt the design of Steam-Decks or Asus ROG Allies etc (which are also based on AMD APUs) for further miniaturization.
