some package prevents tape drive detection

#1 Post by bareassed_caveman »

I installed sarge in may 2006 and my ARCHIVE 4586NP tape drive attached at Host: scsi0 Channel: 01 Id: 04 Lun: 00 was detected and available to the system.

when attempted to set up a backup scheme in sept 06 the drive was no longer detected during boot or by using the scsiadd utility.

between these times I had installed all updated packages from the apt repositories at ftp.au.debian.org with the exception of the kernel, I use a custom 2.6.14 kernel that is unchanged since I built it afer installing sarge.

I have been unable to determine which packages have been updated so I am unable to isolate which package has introduced this bug.

booting from a knoppix 3.6 liveCD (2.4 or 2.6 kernel) detects the drive.
