Sadly I don't think most people do their homework. Hell, I'll admit to not doing *my* homework unless I break something but I don't come in here and bash Debian just because I didn't Read The Fine Manual.

I gotta say I do get dismayed when people come here and level unwarranted criticism at Debian due to being beginners and or not doing any homework, or just plain misunderstanding.
However it's nicer and more productive to offer some help or guide them to where help may be found. We were all clueless noobs at one stage.

Yes, regularly. These boards haven't been much fun for me since maybe 2011.

Re: Install Debian without all these foreign Tools, dicts...
From our own perspective, no one will ever allow us to touch their ("Windows") computers. Trying to Install Debian on their computers is totally out of the question. Don't even think about it. The only way we can entice anyone to try a non-Windows system is to use a LiveUSB. As many would have expected, we used to use Ubuntu by default, but in the past few years, Ubuntu has degraded to a stage that it should be avoided. A hybrid Debian iso with non-free packages is actually the best OS for computer idiots (like my mother). Surprise, surprise. I guess no one would believe this even only a couple of years ago. Many hearty thanks to our dedicated Debian developers. But it needs customization (i.e., persistence).sunrat wrote: ↑2022-08-14 11:08OP apparently was not aware of netinstall. One still needs to know what packages they want for starters, and how to install them using CLI as that's what first boot after a netinstall gives you. Many do not know how, so resort to the full installer DVD or (shudder) installing from the live system.
If you are baffled by this thread, you must be baffled by many others that get posted here and elsewhere!
It would be great to have something like netinstall in hybrid Debian iso (or more appropriately a minimum-install hybrid iso). We can customize it by activating persistence.

I have no idea what that means.

It's entirely up to the user who can build their own debian iso. See:It would be great to have something like netinstall in hybrid Debian iso

Debian 11 with gnome takes 3.9 GB here if I just install normally without doing anything special. You can see installation screencast, disk image, package list and so on at https://lindi.iki.fi/lindi/debian11/des ... installer/

I just did netinstall Bullseye fresh with kde-plasma-desktop - 3.9GB. So I was correct in saying it was under 7GB earlier.

Seriously hope there will be more discussions about building one's own hybrid Debian iso especially for the upcoming bookworm. There is a new app called penguins-eggs that will build an installable liveUSB from your installed base:NorthEast wrote: ↑2022-08-15 01:55It's entirely up to the user who can build their own debian iso.
