For MX Linux repos. https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/a/audacity/
It's working great, according to users.
It was trivial for Bookworm, but I had to also backport wxwidgets3.2 and libmp3lame for Bullseye, as well as restore sbsms source to the orig tarball and have it build an internal version.

Re: Yay! Built Audacity 3.2.5 for Bookworm and even Bullseye
Thanks Steve. Having trouble on Bullseye. Where do I find your backported packages?
I remember trying to compile Audacity 3.x ages ago but gave up when I hit the WX dependencies.
Currently using the 3.2.5 appimage which is fine but prefer native.
Code: Select all
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
audacity : Depends: libwxbase3.2-1 (>= 3.2.2+dfsg) but it is not installable
Depends: libwxgtk3.2-1 (>= 3.2.1+dfsg-2) but it is not installable
Currently using the 3.2.5 appimage which is fine but prefer native.

Thanks @stevepusser ! Working now.stevepusser wrote: ↑2023-03-14 21:35 wxwidgets 3.2 are now in the main MX repo: https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/w/wxwidgets3.2/
For Bullseye just needed to download:
audacity_3.2.5+dfsg-0.1~mx21+1_amd64.deb
audacity-data_3.2.5+dfsg-0.1~mx21+1_all.deb
libwxbase3.2-1_3.2.2+dfsg-1~mx21+1_amd64.deb
libwxgtk3.2-1_3.2.2+dfsg-1~mx21+1_amd64.deb
then I placed them all in a new folder called "audacity" and did
Code: Select all
~/Downloads/audacity# apt install ./*.deb

They tell me you can also use extra downloadable plugins with it, too. With a native build, they stop showing up as items on your menu (the MX forum question gave me the notion to try a native build of 3.2.5.)

Re: Yay! Built Audacity 3.2.5 for Bookworm and even Bullseye
I'd say it's highly unlikely that audacity would add LSP plugins to the whisker menu. Certainly didn't happen in my KDE, but then I have all lsp-plugins installed anyway. Manual install as repos don't have the latest version 1.2.5 . There are 134 plugins.
Your Audacity 3.2.5 MX package is working nicely here; been recording some of my vinyl records.

Re: Yay! Built Audacity 3.2.5 for Bookworm and even Bullseye
I notice Audacity 3.2.5 still suffers from bug #2937 - Missing horizontal scrollbar, first report over 2 years ago in v3.1 and reported in 3.2 in May 2022. - https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues/2937
Workaround is to maximise and restore, or just drag resize a bit. Threw me a little when I encountered it.
I also had to tweak my gtk.css file to get the scrollbar to be a useable size, it was tiny on my UHD monitor. That's not unique to Audacity though, it affects all GTK programs on my KDE Plasma.
Also is not working correctly with Pulseaudio,
Edit - it is working if Pulseaudio is active. It just wouldn't record when output device was set to "default", had to change it to my actual hardware device. Possibly won't affect people with normal audio setups.
But then I have a weird audio setup with JACK as default and PA routed through a JACK sink. JACK needs to be stopped for Audacity to record for me.
