[O/S] Using FStab generates double 'mounted drives' on the filemanager of LXDE
Hi, I'm having this issue, I loaded two overlays following this guide:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Overlay_filesystem
And I end up with two entries:
What's happening? It's not that it bothers that much but I'd like to know what is happening here.
Thanks,

Hi Aki, thanks for your answer.
In the picture I've attached, the content of fstab is visible, in there, the only two entries I've added, are the ones inside the red rectangle, the rest are "out of the box" lines.
Is that what you're looking for?

Code: Select all
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
# systemd generates mount units based on this file, see systemd.mount(5).
# Please run 'systemctl daemon-reload' after making changes here.

Re: [O/S] Using FStab generates double 'mounted drives' on the filemanager of LXDE
Hello,
You have multiple entries for each overlay mount because they count for two (lowerdir and upperdir) .
You can double check with the output of the mount command that will list all mounted file systems:
EDITED: 2023/03/09

Okay, so there's no way to solve it?

Re: [O/S] Using FStab generates double 'mounted drives' on the filemanager of LXDE
Hello,
The "noauto,x-systemd.automount" options in /etc/fstab should not be required in overlay mounts. I removed them in a testing machine with Debian Bookworm and the overlay mounts are regularly mounted at boot.

Re: [O/S] Using FStab generates double 'mounted drives' on the filemanager of LXDE
I used them from here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Overlay_filesystem
Because it stated:
The noauto and x-systemd.automount mount options are necessary to prevent systemd from hanging on boot because it failed to mount the overlay. The overlay is now mounted whenever it is first accessed and requests are buffered until it is ready. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Fstab# ... th_systemd

Re: [O/S] Using FStab generates double 'mounted drives' on the filemanager of LXDE
systemd would hang if the overlayed directories are from not already mounted filesystems (for example, network file systems), but it seems it's not your use case according to your /etc/fstab.frenchiveruti wrote: ↑2023-03-22 01:34 I used them from here:
