Do you have Two-sided under Layout in the Page Setup tab of the print dialogue? (It is not available for me because my printer doesn't support it.)

I appreciate the help. But it does support it both from the manufacturer's manuals, and even in Windows in the case that you print from Windows and Android. The problem is that since Debian 11 it doesn't work, which it does work on Debian 10.

The big change in Debian 11 is that it supports driverless printing, but we don't know if you're using a driverless setup or still trying to use a driver.

You need to be more specific. Is the option not there? Is it there but greyed out? Is it available but not working?

You also need to answer the question posed in the other thread: how did you install the printer? Did you install a Canon package? Did you install a Debian driver, or did you set up a driverless print queue?

Output of the following please:

Code: Select all

$ lpstat -t

Code: Select all

$ driverless

You say:
=======

Bonjour-advertised IPP printers are identified. Look for entries beginning URF=... and pdl=... . If URF=... exists and pdl=... contains image/urf you have an AirPrint printer.

(Debian Wiki)

If you are lucky enough to have a driverless network printer, finding and using the printer is now very easy. For more information about driverless printing and setting up a print queue (finding the printer, however it is connected, basically) see:

CUPSDriverlessPrinting (Debian Wiki)

and

SystemPrinting (Debian Wiki)

The state of the Printer (paper out/jam, low ink/toner, etc) is part of the driverless protocol and should be reported (pwg.org).

For users of driverless printers with a USB connection, using the printer is even easier, as Debian will auto-create a driverless print queue for the printer. This means that printing (and scanning) with a driver won't work. This is a feature not a bug! (Debian Wiki)

For driverless scanning in Bullseye, install the package sane-airscan, and it should just be a case of connecting a compatible device. This package is not an automatic install with SANE (the scanning package) in Bullseye, but it will be in future versions. For the moment, trying to scan with a USB connected driverless scanner in Bullseye without sane-airscan installed will result in various error messages, such as:

And me say:

Note:
I think it's clear that it supports it and I also have it installed.

Just to be clear. I notice that the printer doesn't work since I upgraded from Debian 10 to Debian 11 because someone didn't do their job right.

I say this with all the respect that Debian deserves and all those who have made an effort so that you and I are talking about this topic.

The first portion of the sentence is significant. The second portion introduces finger pointing (at Canon?) and I do not think we should have that :).

You definitely have a device that is capable of driverless printing in duplex on Debian. I would set up a print queue with

Code: Select all

lpadmin -p TS5100 -v "ipp://72F992000000.local/ipp/print" -E -m everywhere
Test with

Code: Select all

lp -d TS5100 -o sides=two-sided-long-edge /etc/services
