[Installation] remaining black screen after changing resolution or refreshrate

#1 Post by luckyDoc »

Everything worked fine :D after installation of Neptune 7.5 parallel to Win10: i5, 32 GB DDR4, GTX 1070, 4k-Monitor from LG via HDMI cable.
Then I wanted to try different screen resolution modes by using "Display Configuration", the screen went black  probably because of an incompatible resolution or refresh rate. There was no time-out to go back to previous resolution settings.
Restart did not help, the monitor goes black instead of displaying the desktop.

How can I reset the screen resolution to the initial working resolution and refresh rate?
I have r/w access to Neptune 7.5 files through Win10. Is there a config file to change or delete? Or a command via Ctrl+Alt+F1 console?

Thank you in advance! lucky1one

Moved to off-topic sub-forum since it seems about not a Debian distribution but about a derivative distribution.

https://neptuneos.com/ is Debian based, so why "off-topic"? Anyhow, how to solve it? Which config file to edit or delete???

Hello,

It could be useful to see the output of the xrandr command from the command line of a tty console (as normal user) to verify the X server is really running.

Probably you could delete .local/share/kscreen (see [1]) for your home directory.

Hope this helps. Let me know.

Because this is Debian User Forums for people who use Debian, not Debian derivatives.

Derivatives have changes, which make them derivatives. They can have problems, which are due to those changes and which we know nothing about.

Should we be expected to know about MX Linux, Ubuntu, Zorin, Sparky, Kali, Q4OS, PopOS etc, etc?

Neptune has its own forum https://forum.neptuneos.com/public/ , Not many threads so far, but they have to start somewhere.

SOLVED! Thank you Aki for the hint to remove (I renamed) the folder .local/share/kscreen which contained a file "b0061f6ac4bc1b418d05b616719cad5a" with a 4k resolution at refreshrate=50 which was obviously not compatible with LG 4k monitor model 32UK550

xrandr showed nearly all thinkable resolutions + refreshrates which my LG monitor is not able to display. Anyhow, I'm disappointed that the app "Display Configuration" has no timeout or cancel or ESC function when the screen goes black=incompatible.

Many thanks to Aki! Stay strong, luckyDoc (c;
