Hi there!
I want to install Debian 12, but here is a problem: i use it for old iMac and kernels 6.1 and higher do not provide brightness control for display, so i'm kinda stucked with 6.0 (currently on Kali).
Will it be possible to install / use kernel 6.0 in upcoming Debian stable release (and how)?
Thanks in advance,
Dmitry

Re: [Software] 6.0. Kernel
Hello,
You can install the kernel version you wish in Debian 12 as in previous versions. If you are currently running a working kernel from Debian repository, you can install it in Debian 12, too. You can pick it up from https://snapshot.debian.org or from a specific debian repository (if available). You can also build it by yourself from source code, of course (see here [1] for an example).
It could be interesting to have more insight about this issue, with a reference to a bug report or an issue report. Can you provide it ?
It would be useful for other viewers to make the subject of the first post more self explanatory; for example, from:

Re: [Software] 6.0. Kernel
Thanks very much for answer, will do more useful subjects as recommended.
Regarding this issue with brightness - I saw in internet that other people also have the same problem. Probably to bug a report is a good idea, will look into it.

Re: [Software] 6.0. Kernel
Using an outdated kernel is a really bad idea. If the problem is reported to the kernel developers any fixes will probably be backported for the 12.1 point release.
But before you do that please post the output of
And also try the suggestions given here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Backlight
I found https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=282757, which suggests the acpi_backlight=native parameter, or perhaps acpi.register_backlight_delay=8, as suggested by V1del.
See also https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/ ... ol/47150/2 & https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/ ... work/78264 ← that was fixed with acpi_backlight=video.
If we can't get it working a bug report is the next step.

Thanks very much, Sir!Random_Troll wrote: ↑2023-06-05 15:15 And also try the suggestions given here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Backlight
Just first attempt with adding "acpi_backlight=video" to kernel parameters works out perfectly.
My grub already updated and me happy!
Seems like problems was fixed recently, because about couple of months ago or so i tried it without success.
Have a nice day!
