Re: [bookworm] It has begun.
I spent the last couple of hours upgrading my home server. Referencing Chapter 4 of the release notes is a nice tool to have open while doing so.
The only speed bump was dealing with the Plex server key that was in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg that needs to go into /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d
Overthinking it through me off. Was easier than I thought. None the less, its a great process and have been running for about an hour now.
Well done dev-team, well done!

If only everyone would download their images using BitTorrent...donald wrote: ↑2023-06-10 15:54Upgrades by users immediately after a Debian release place a significant load on the mirror network. In July 2019 the release of buster saw nearly 1GiB/s peak file downloads for several days on some networks, whilst in August 2021 the releasing bullseye caused 1.05GiB/s. I just downloaded the netinstall torrent in 2 minutes which maxed my 50Mb/s bandwidth. 329 seeds!

Re: [bookworm] It has begun. ITS ALIVE! Debian 12 "bookworm" released.
17 hours later.
I promised some behind the scenes stuff earlier but it was a busy busy day.
So ... in between all of that stuff. The web services were stopped so that
the website could be rebuilt to point to the proper download link, the
translations could be published and a dozen other small details.
Normally we wait for the release and CD teams to push forward but there were
a lot of left feet today across a few areas and those teams wound up waiting
for us (publicity) instead.
Several translations were done over, some other teams had some build magic done,
some on the spot error correcting was done, somewhere there was a failure ...
that and all you can imagine what happens with the bustling of an international
community coming together for a stated goal for a single day.
On our side the web rebuild jobs took forever to complete, I actually trussed
and cooked a pork loin within the build time. I overcooked it.
There was a pre-pre-pre-announcement or lets call it a 'Surprise to all of us
announcement' ( that oops done by yours truly) , we rolled back that
announcement which caused a parallel delay with another team.
Throughout it all the release, buildd, webmaster, cd, images, ftp, and many
other teams coordinated, waited, chatted, worked, joked, cooked, waited, and
released. We pulled together and got it done. Shout out to the mirrors team!
Thank you all for your support, we hope that you enjoy Debian 12 bookworm!

Re: [bookworm] It has begun.
Funny, I started downloading that torrent at around 3pm central time, so there there is a theoretical chance that I was one of the 329.sunrat wrote: ↑2023-06-11 02:07 If only everyone would download their images using BitTorrent...

I also leave that torrent seeding permanently until the next point release drops. Then I do the same thing with that one, as a way to give back.

Last night's dist-upgrade from 11 to 12 had to have been the easiest and problem free upgrade I've ever done. Flawless thus far.
Thank you to all involved!

Re: [bookworm] It has begun. ITS ALIVE! Debian 12 "bookworm" released.
I installed Debian 12 this morning on my HP laptop. I have never been so impressed with a release in all my life! Every single thing works exactly as it should. I am not finding glitches with Wayland, never thought I'd see that! This is an outstanding release! Thank you to all that made this possible!

Re: [bookworm] It has begun. ITS ALIVE! Debian 12 "bookworm" released.
1. installed using debian-live-12.0.0-amd64-mate.iso
it went fine, no issues
*I dislike the calamares installer, but that's OK
also
2. installed using debian-12.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso
it also went fine, except GRUB not installed
see Bug#1035096: installation-report Bookworm RC2 GRUB not installed*
not a big deal, I was able to get GRUB installed anyway.
* I expected that, I know the patch did not get vetted in time to be fixed
installation-report was filed
