eID software Belgium

#1 Post by Fossy »

The eID software is indispensable on a Belgian computer for this simple reason , viz: https://eid.belgium.be/en/what-eid

To my amazement, however, I find that the Belgian Federal Public Service BOSA uses the following rules :
https://eid.belgium.be/en/faq/which-lin ... orted#7403 :
Which Linux distributions are supported?
FPS Policy and Support - DG Digital Transformation supports these Linux distributions:
• Ubuntu (the most recent version... ? , and the two most recent LTS-versions)
• Linux Mint (the versions that are based on the supported versions of Ubuntu LTS)
Debian (the two most recent versions)
• Red Hat / CentOS (the two most recent versions)
• openSUSE (the two most recent versions)
• Fedora (the two most recent versions)
If you are using an unsupported version of any of these distributions, we recommend that you switch to the updated version as soon as possible.
In addition, FPS Policy and Support - DG Digital Transformation will never support a distribution that has been declared EOL (end-of-life) by the distribution itself.

But concretely dd 26/07/20223 : https://eid.belgium.be/en/linux-eid-sof ... stallation :
Supported distributions and versions:
◦ Debian 10 "Buster" ... ?
◦ Debian 11 "Bullseye" … old stable ?
◦ Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" (Be sure to read this FAQ question)
◦ Ubuntu 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" (Be sure to read this FAQ question)
Ubuntu 23.04 "Lunar Lobster" (Be sure to read this FAQ question) ... interim release
◦ Linux Mint 20.3 "Una"
◦ Linux Mint 21.1 "Vera"

No Debian 12 Bookworm ?
But though , along with the two latest LTS editions , Ubuntu 23.04 "Lunar Lobster" which note is not an LTS edition but an interim edition : short-term release supported by 9 months !

For the record , I have approached BOSA DT Service Desk over here but apparently they don't think it is necessary to provide any explanation , or in other words , I have been given a free ride .
So ,reluctantly , I will stay with Bullseye 11.7 old stable until this is sorted out.

For those who care ... strange, don't you think ?

So a government agency hasn't updated their web page.

The government website will get updated, just be patient. Meanwhile, just follow the instructions for Debian 11 Bullseye and it will also work on 12 Bookworm.

I now see admittedly not yet listed on their website , a few hours later than my original post , that an update to the eid-archive_2023_all.deb has been released > is now version 2023.2 .
This version is compatible with Debian 12 Bookworm .
Immediately tested out ... everything ok , works perfectly .
