VirtualBox invalid dmi field header

#1 Post by fedef »

Hello,
I'm using a Debian VM on Virtual Box. I turned on the VM and this error appeared: "systemd[1] invalid dmi field header"
The last thing I did was to enable ipv6 on the NAT network and edit the /etc/network/interfaces file accordingly. Any idea?

Hello,

Welcome to the forums.

A quick search in the forum led me to these other discussion: It seems to be a host virtualbox issue.

What is the VirtualBox version and host operating system ?

Does Debian still complete the boot?

EDIT: I edited the subject of the first topic from "VirtualBox invalid dmi errore" to "VirtualBox invalid dmi field header" (the error your reported in the body of your first post)

It's Debian 12 and Virtual Box 7.0.10

I would not assume that the slowness is caused by the error you reported. Search for more clues in Debian guest logs.

I'm not sure too, but before the error it was fast and had no problems, so I assumed the sluggishness was caused by the error. Now I'm trying to ask for help on the VirtualBox forum too.

I see the "dmi field header" squawk routinely in my VBox Deb12 VMs (have a bunch, including one for each desktop). Does not delay boot, nor cause any other problems I've noticed. All of them are merely test boxes, though, so they don't get enough work to give much weight to the second observation. Anyhoo, on the whole, I'm inclined to think the network setting modifications are what is causing the boot delay.

To anyone still having this problem, I noticed that my guest additions iso was still attached, upon deattaching it, the 'invalid dmi field header' message still showed but didn't hang.
Hopefully this solution is helpful to others as well, good luck!
