I have used Debian before with no problems.
This time I choose the Mate desktop ... installation went without a hitch.
But during use the 'performance monitor' crashed and would not work again even after restarted it and re-installing it, and I experienced corrupted display screens.
So I switched to the Plasma desktop and have no problems.
I don't expect someone to solve these issues, I mentioned them just as a heads-up.
