I use proDVGFX as my theme and it worked well there and on a few other themes I checked. I changed the mod/banner to remove the site logo which should reflect on all of the themes across the board. Please let us know if there are any further difficulties.
Typo perfectionish.

@donald The band is a nice sentiment to honour the passing of arochester, but now there is no identifying header at all to signify this is Debian forums. Can you temporarily resize the swirl or increase the height of the header div?

@sunrat I have all of tomorrow and can dedicate some time to this. Most likely I'll impose the logo atop the banner. Easiest fix.

Perhaps you could change the mouse hover text to "RIP arochester" or something similar? It's not clear at the moment why the banner has changed. It took me a while to realise and obviously the death was in my mind, but black and purple are not familiar to me as colours of mourning.
The extension doesn't let one add anything extra to it, just the banner itself. I moved the settings around a bit and made it smaller/larger which allows the image to stay in one spot and show the forum image as well. I didn't see any other extensions that would allow for a smaller banner/image with a link to the thread which would have been ideal considering all things.
