What's your all-time favorite piece of old-school tech that brings back memories?

Nextel PTT (chirp) phones with the full keyboard were the pinnacle of technology.

You could have a single contact or a group contact. Never had any long long unnecessary conversations it was:

You: Hey
Recipient: Hey

You: Issue
Recipient: Response

You: Bye
Recipient: Bye

You to group: Dave will be late
Group member 1, 2, 3, 4: Yup, yup, yup, yup
No reply from Dave.

If you needed to go into detail you would use the keyboard to send a text message.

:D
Typo perfectionish.

Two rubberized cups on a cable, one a mic, one a speaker, to be fashioned onto a rotary phone receiver.
Bzzzz, bing bing, buuuuuuuuu, bang bang bing, brrrr, ding.
Oh cool, 2400 baud, rock and roll!

Not extremely old-school, but portable CD-players—Discman, etc.

What I enjoyed was being able to fix them when they broke. You just stroll into the hobby store with a random cable or piece and they sold you one for a couple bucks.

Actually, I'll add Walkman here for the same reason.

Those were the last things that we could fix with ease where I grew up. The hobby stores began to disappear. No fun. I had to fix a cd-radio thing a few months back, and an RC car. Luckily they were just cases of loose cables.

Diodes, triodes and a slew of other configurations. My parents had one of those entertainment consoles with AM radio, shortwave and a turntable for records. I loved trolling the shortwave but much of it was in Morse code and unintelligible to me. When it malfunctioned my dad would take out all the tubes and take them to some place that had a tester. He always came home with one or two new tubes.

Yup - where I lived, it was the local drug store that had the testers. Always had to flick the tubes with your finger a few times.

Remember telephones before dials? Party lines?

HiFi (high fidelity) before stereo?

45 records?

My first computer - a Commodore 64 with cassette player (image borrowed from the Internet). Lots of gameplay, but also my first coding in BASIC.

I was very excited to try the old games once again, but after a few minutes I could remember why getting a computer with DOS was a huge upgrade:

Gigapets and tamagotchi. What a novel use, however useless, of low power devices. It is far from some "all time favorite" tech but it does bring back memories.
