[Hardware] Keyboard issue
[Hardware] Keyboard issue
Hi,
My keboard strikes multiple times when I press a button and I constantly have to go back and correct this. This has appeared after upgrading from Debian 10 to Debian 12. Do I have a hardware issue here? Is my PC about to die? I have disabled "enable key repeat" but it still types the same letter several times all the time. I would be happy if anyone knows something about this problem!
Kind regards

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
Hi peer,
Should I just boot from a live cd and try typing something in the text editor or what? I'm not sure how to do this... Can I boot up from a Live CD even though I have Debian 12 installed?
kind regards

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
everything worked fine when I booted up from a live cd and typed in some text in Libre Office, but as soon I get back here it start again. Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall the drivers for the keyboard?
Kind regards

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
The only time I've had something like this happen, it was related to the power supply, and it was a known issue.
Open a terminal and run
Then open up LibreOffice or whatever and start typing some sentences.
As soon as the repeat happens check the log at that time.
Something may show up in that log.
You could check too at the time the repeat happened.
Open a terminal and run
Code: Select all
journalctl -f

You could check
Code: Select all
sudo dmesg

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
Have you tried checking for any keyboard driver updates or adjusting the repeat delay settings?
Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
Hi,
journalctl -f
frezees after 30 seconds. waited 30 minutes before i stopped it...
i still think it's the driver though...
have started to consider whether i should reinstall or not?

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
HI Ushavilash,
How do I check for any keyboard driver? Do I go to the manufacturer of the PC to check that? Any help? I have disabled "enable key repeat" in the keyboard settings and also in KDE system settings "when the key is held - do nothing"

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
Suggestion: perhaps update the title of your first post in the thread with a short description like
Extra kepresses registered while typing
As @Ushavilash mentioned, there may be a firmware update available or a driver.
KDE has a setting for Bounce Keys that may be worth looking at.
Are you using a HDD or SSD?

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
in the Live CD everything works fine. the back space key does not continue to move when pressing it - i have to press it repeatedly but in Live CD everything works. must be a driver issue. have to reinstall even though it takes hours installing all packages and configuring and so on...bummer!

Re: [Hardware] Keyboard issue
Somehat related: when I upgraded to Debian 12 I noticed that "shift+7" sometimes produces "/" and sometimes "7" on Finnish keyboard layout. I tracked this down to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... ug=1040843 and was able to fix it with the linked patch.
