Hello,
I have a problem installing Debian 12 on an old HP Elitedesk. I installed Debian 11 on it before and there were no problems. Now during installation I get an error: No suitable video mode. Booting in blind mode. I tried the solution found: C key during start and in command line: insmod all_video. But it didn't work for me. Please help.

Hello,
What is the Debian Installer ISO image your are using ?
Are you starting the Debian Installer with textual installer (and not the graphic installer) ?

Problem solved. The computer was connected to a Sony 4K TV in the living room. After connecting to an older Thomson TV (FUllHD), the problem disappeared. I don't understand this, because I had already installed Debian on this PC when it was connected to this TV, although it was Debian 11.

Re: [Solved] No suitable video mode during installation
This exact scenario happened to me because i also happen to have an old HP EliteDesk with an Intel Haswell CPU (800 G1). I'm using 27" 4K monitor as a display and got this error while installing debian 12.8 via USB bootable stick (latest version of debian as of today). Unfortunately i don't have spare old monitor like you to help through the installation process. I'm really hoping that they could fix this.

Re: [Solved] No suitable video mode during installation
I recently bought a 4k monitor for my desktop and had issues with it halting at boot time, my solution was to force grub to use 1920x1080 (aka FHD) to allow it to work. The line I had to add to grub (/etc/default/grub) was
although I havent yet tried a usb boot on this machine and that will probably not happen until trixie becomes stable, but when I do I may look back on this thread for answers.
Code: Select all
GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080
