Debian 12 + KDE: problem with missing/not updating window content

#1 Post by postcd »

Off Topic
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 12
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 5.10.0-32-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: AMD with Radeon Graphics (4.6 Mesa 22.3.6 )
1. after some time when i try to return to Thunderbird (stable-security,proposed-updates,now 1:115.15.0-1~deb12u1 amd64), click to bring it to a foreground, the window does not show content, is dark. This issue happened before, but not happened in older Thunderbird version.

2. Other apps like LibreWolf after some time shows frozen content of other windows (content which was displayed before switching to a problematic app window). When i click to close Librewolf, it does not close. Thunderbird closes without problem

3. kwin (and other like 3-4 apps crashed (dumped core) in same minute. When i have spent time filling the report using KDE crash handler was stuck sending it, then the system was power-cycled suddenly.

I remember from older Debian that left Alt+Spacebar triggered a prompt where i could execute the KDE Plasma restart (without terminating apps), now that prompt does not appear.

Please any ideas what to restart, what to try, what is good place to report this GUI related issue?

Can you use krunner? Just click anywhere on the desktop and start typing and it should appear. A good command to try is:

Code: Select all

plasmashell --replace
Otherwise you can run the command in a terminal window.

I had minor graphical glitches on my KDE system some time ago and used this to get back to normal, but haven't experienced it for a while now.

This seems to restart GUI, but does NOT affect the issue (Thunderbird window content is still not accessible).

Someone mentioned
suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12)
, it just changes the content of the window from black to white or vice versa.

does not help either.

Why do you have a Bullseye kernel on Bookworm? Might be part or all of the problem.
