Hi
I am trying to use Proggy bitmap fonts but for some reason they do not install or work well. I install the bitmap versions but in the list they show up as ttf and when I select them to use in Gvim, and they have nothing to do with the real Proggy fonts
http://www.proggyfonts.com/
I download the X versions
put them in the ~/.fonts folder
I then fire "fc-cache -fv"
I have bunch of other installed bitmap fonts like Neep, Dina, Progsole etc they all work great in Gvim except Proggy.
Does anyone know how to get this thing work ?
thanks
Proggy bitmap fonts problem
Re: Proggy bitmap fonts problem
You might need to reconfigure your font configuration, I seem to recall that bitmap fonts are disabled by default. as root, try
dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config
and look for options relating to bitmap fonts

Re: Proggy bitmap fonts problem
Ok this is driving me nuts here These fonts(Proggy) do not work in another new Debian install either. I do not get it, all the other bitmap fonts work.
Is someone kind of enough to try installing the Proggy fonts and see if there is anything wrong with them?
thanks

Re: Proggy bitmap fonts problem
I'm having the same issue. Other gzipped PCF fonts work fine (e.g. gohufont). The proggy fonts show up in font selection lists in Qt and GTK programs but when selected the text is clearly rendered in DejaVu Sans. When I select a proggy font in xfontsel they are rendered correctly. When I set URxvt's font to a proggy font, it seems to work. So it must be a problem with certain GUI programs.
For now, I'm sticking with Gohu: http://font.gohu.eu/

Re: Proggy bitmap fonts problem
I just tried the TTF versions and they work fine in GVim (as long as you set it to the correct size, 12 for all the ones I've tried so far). However, bold and italic text doesn't look so good, although this can be remedied by modifying your colorscheme.
